The refreshed 2017 Nissan Pathfinder has earned a 5-star overall vehicle safety rating as part of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's (NHTSA) New Car Assessment Program (NCAP). Beginning with the 2011 model year, NHTSA introduced more stringent tests and requirements in order to earn 5-star ratings. The previous Pathfinder earned a 5-star NCAP rating each year since 2014.

The introduction of the new Pathfinder is a core element in what Nissan is calling the "Year of the Truck" – which includes Pathfinder, the new TITAN half-ton and expanded TITAN XD lineup, and the all-new Armada full-size SUV.
The 2017 Pathfinder's advanced driver assistance technology includes new Forward Emergency Braking and Intelligent Cruise Control. For 2017, Moving Object Detection has been added to the available Around View® Monitor. Also available are Blind Spot Warning and Rear Cross Traffic Alert.
